Tides Add New Members to Front Office

PRESS RELEASE – The Norfolk Tides announced the front office addition of Andrew Garrelts on Thursday. Garrelts will serve as the Tides Business Manager for the upcoming season, replacing Mike Giedlin who left in December to take a similar role with Northern Arizona University. In addition, the Tides welcomed four new interns into the fold: Jeremy Cowen (Group Sales), Ed DiIenno (Media Relations), Janelle Henry (Group Sales) and Matt Moyer (Stadium Operations).

Garrelts brings 11 years of experience in the accounting and financial industry with him to the Tides. Most recently a financial analyst for Citi in Tampa, FL, 2011 will mark the first year for Garrelts in the baseball industry. The 33-year old Shawnee, KS native has a B.A. in accounting from Kansas State University as well as a Masters in Business Administration from Park University (MO.)

Cowen and Henry also enter their first season in professional baseball while serving as interns for the group sales department. Cowen, 22-years old, is a native of Chicago, IL and a graduate of Ball State University (IN). Henry, a Norfolk resident, studied sports management at Virginia State University. She spent last spring working as an intern in the VSU athletic department.

DiIenno, 21, brings multiple experiences in the baseball industry with him to Norfolk. The Warminster, PA native spent last season as an intern for the Elmira Pioneers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. He also served as a press operations intern for the first round of World Baseball Classic in 2009. DiIenno currently attends Ithaca College (NY) and is studying sports management.

Moyer joins the staff after spending last summer as an intern with The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC. The 22-year old resident of Virginia Beach is currently a student at Emory and Henry College (VA) where he studies sports management and geography.

The Norfolk Tides will open the 2011 season in Charlotte on Thursday, April 7. The team will make its Harbor Park debut against the same Charlotte Knights on Saturday, April 16. Season ticket packages and Tides Ten Packes are currently available online, over the phone or by visiting the Tides Box Office at Harbor Park.
