The new name for the American Association team in Amarillo (TX) is reportedly going to be the Amarillo Gold Sox. However, we see a potential problem for the new team, as the “Gold Sox” mark is owned by the City of Marysville (CA) for the summer collegiate Marysville (formerly Yuba-Sutter) Gold Sox.
As we see it, this would require the Amarillo team to use “Amarillo” in conjunction with “Gold Sox” in the servicemark/trademark categories of goods and services registered by Marysville. They could not use “Gold Sox” alone, for example, on caps and t-shirts. The domain www.amarillogoldsox.com is also in use by a local youth team. Read more here.
