Sky Sox, Rockies Extend PDC

PRESS RELEASE – The Colorado Springs Sky Sox and the Colorado Rockies have extended their Player Development Contract through the end of the 2012 baseball season, team officials announced today. The two-year agreement extends from October 1, 2010 until September 30, 2012.

“The Colorado Rockies Organization is very pleased to extend our contract with the Sky Sox, and we are proud to remain a part of the Sky Sox family,” said Rockies Director of Player Development Marc Gustafson. “The community of Colorado Springs and the Sky Sox front office staff have always been great. We look forward to a very successful future with Colorado Springs and the Sky Sox Organization.”

The Rockies have been affiliated with the Sky Sox since 1993, the Rockies very first season. The 17-year partnership, spanning 18 seasons, has seen great success as more than 260 players have split regular season time between the Sky Sox and Rockies. In 2007, 22 of the Rockies 25-man World Series roster were former Sky Sox. In addition, the Sky Sox have reached the playoffs three times over that span and won the PCL Championship in 1995.

“Over the past 17 years, our partnership with the Colorado Rockies has been a tremendous success and a source of great pride for the Colorado Springs community. Security Service Field has been the launching pad for numerous Major League baseball players like Todd Helton, Jeff Francis, Ubaldo Jimenez, Matt Holliday and many more and we look forward to continuing that tradition,” said Sky Sox General Manager Tony Ensor. “It’s a thrilling time to be a Sky Sox and Rockies fan here in the state of Colorado. We look forward to continuing to showcase some of the best professional baseball talent in the country and matching that talent against the league’s best in the hopes of bringing another Pacific Coast League Championship to Colorado Springs.”
