PRESS RELEASE – In recognition of the pop culture phenomenon that has swept the nation, the Fresno Grizzlies will celebrate Twilight Night on Saturday, June 26th at 7:05pm at Chukchansi Park. The event will take place on the evening of a lunar eclipse, in advance of the highly anticipated third installment of the popular film series.
At the core of the Twilight craze is one of the most hotly debated topics in recent memory, which can be summed up succinctly in one question: Team Edward or Team Jacob? Fans voted through the Grizzlies’ Facebook Fan Page during the month of May between a customized vampire (Team Edward) or werewolf (Team Jacob) jersey. The winning jersey will be worn by the Grizzlies during Twilight Night and will be announced in the week leading up to the game. The game-worn jerseys will be available for purchase through a live charity auction after the game, with proceeds aptly benefiting the Central California Blood Center.
In addition, the Grizzlies will be giving away passes to the midnight premiere of Twilight: Eclipse, playing at midnight on Wednesday, June 30th. The first jersey auction winner will receive four of the coveted passes, as will the largest auction bidder that evening.
A special “Choose Your Side” ticket offer will also be available for the game. By using the promo code “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob” at the Chukchansi Park Box Office, fans will be able to purchase a $10 Super View seat, three dollars off the regular price, and sit in the section with the rest of their team. Fans who take advantage of this special offer will also be entered into the drawing for 11 pairs of tickets to the film premiere. Winners will be chosen from both sections throughout the evening. The evening’s in-game entertainment will feature vampire and werewolf player headshots, competitions between Team Jacob and Team Edward sections, a “moody romance” cam, and much more. Fans are encouraged to dress up and show support for their team of choice.
In the week leading up to Twilight Night, the Grizzlies and Y101 are pleased to support the CCBC and their “Twilight Fans Blood Drive”, running from Monday, June 21 through Friday, June 25. Participants will receive a “Team Jacob” or “Team Edward” T-shirt when they donate at the Central California Blood Centers. Fans who wear their t-shirts to the game will receive a special 2-for-1 ticket offer for that night only, and can represent their team by sitting in designated sections.
The Grizzlies recognize that in spite of the popularity of the Twilight Saga, there will be fans in attendance that have an indifference towards or even a dislike of Twilight, who will be more interested in focusing on the baseball game being played on the field. For them, the same $10 Super View ticket will be available in the “Team Neither” section. Those fans can congregate together and appreciate the Buster Posey Jersey T-Shirt Giveaway, presented by CCBC, available to the first 2,000 fans through the gates. The catcher, who has since been promoted to the San Francisco Giants, is one of the recognizable players ever to have played in a Grizzlies uniform, and this will be a unique opportunity for fans to own a piece of wearable memorabilia from a marquee player.
