The two exhibition games played by the Can-Am League’s Brockton Rox and Quebec Capitales at the revived former Triple-A stadium for the Maine Guides in Old Orchard Beach (ME) were poorly attended. Reports are that the attendance for both games was around 200 fans each night. As pondered by Chris Carminucci from the Rox, the turnout was probably not a true reflection any future attendance performance by the small coastal community during the height of tourist season in June, July, and August.
Indeed, the OOB population explodes during the summer. With a well-marketed summer collegiate team (probably the New England Collegiate Baseball League), there is indeed potential. One major challenge that any future team owner would face at The Ballpark is “intimacy.” As a former Triple-A stadium, it’s huge, and having a half empty or more ballpark on game nights is never good for atmosphere.
