PRESS RELEASE – The Topeka Golden Giants baseball team, in a show of solidarity, will change their name for the month of March to the Google Golden Giants.
Google, Ks Mayor Bill Bunten announced Monday a proclamation that Topeka would change it’s name to Google, Kansas for the month of March. The goal was to persuade the internet giant to choose Topeka as a test site for it’s new fiber optic network, it would provide internet speeds 100 times faster than those elsewhere, with data transfer rates faster than 1 gigabit per second.
Landing the Google Fiber Project could be a big boost to the local economy and help put Topeka on the map globally.
“The Golden Giants are firmly behind this effort to help bring Google’s Fiber Project to Topeka,” said Golden Giants President Brett Cowdin. “We are more than happy to change our name to reflect our community – Google, Kansas.”
