PRESS RELEASE – The Cedar Rapids Kernels continue the run of the longest affiliation in the Midwest League as today, at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Indianapolis, IN, they signed a two year Player Development Contract extension with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
“We continue to be pleased with the quality of players the Angels have provided”, said Tom Barbee, President of the Kernels’ Board of Directors. “We’ve reached the Western Division Finals the past two seasons, and look to improve on that in 2010 and beyond. The Angels provide great young men that enjoy being involved in our community while they’re here in Cedar Rapids.””The Angels are pleased to extend our agreement with the Cedar Rapids Kernels through the 2012 season,” said Abe Flores, Director of Player Development with the Angels. “We value our relationship with the Kernels’ ownership and front office, and we appreciate that our players are playing in a first-class facility where they receive tremendous fan support.”The Kernels began their affiliation with the Angels in 1993 and won the Midwest League title in 1994. Currently, there are 21 former Kernels on the Angels’ 40-man roster.The Kernels open the ninth season in Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, April 8 at 6:35 pm against the Beloit Snappers.
