Capital campaign organizers have raised $749,250 of the $1.5 million planned to renovate Bismarck Municipal Ball Park, the former home of the indy pro Dakota Rattlers from the defunct but once-promising Prairie League in the mid 90s. Read more here. Over the past few years, there has been talk about bringing a summer collegiate Northwoods League team to Bismarck. The renovations planned would fit right in line with those in LaCrosse (WI) and Willmar(MN), which host successful Northwoods League franchises.
By the way, we provided the Rattlers’ logo used here to Indy Leagues Graveyard some years ago, when it could not be found anywhere. We only had a black and white version we pulled from a printed document we had in our massive library of minor-league articles and information we had collected since the mid-90s.
This and other Prairie League logos we provided ended up on Logo Server too. Looking at these old logos and reviewing the archived Prairie League website really takes us back to the early days of the modern-day indy pro movement. Today, our favorite logo from the old days remains the Saskatoon Smokin’ Guns!

As I asked folks on Facebook, anyone remember Kevin Trainor from RealBaseball.com? He did a good job in the early days of tracking what was going on the indy leagues in the 90s when the web was this new and exciting channel for news and information. The site is long gone, and I am not sure if he still resides in the Minneapolis area or not. Funny, he still owes me some back issues of his publication or a refund! One of his old quotes from USA Today Weekly still shows up on the archived Prairie League website we linked to above and below:
