Hawks Honor Killebrew, Retire No. 3

Idaho’s greatest baseball player never played an inning of minor league ball in the Gem State, but that didn’t stop the Single-A Boise Hawks (Northwest League) from honoring the late Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew on Saturday night by retiring a No. 3 Hawks jersey.  The team has only retired two other jerseys over the years, including Jackie Robinson‘s No. 42 and former Hawks manager Tom Kotchman‘s No. 11.  Read more and view photo here.

    Killebrew was born and raised in Payette, Idaho, outside of Boise. I went to high school in Emmett, about 30 miles from Payette. View map below:

    During my time (long after Killebrew), the schools were rivals in the Snake River Valley Conference.
