Northwoods League to Discuss Future in Wisconsin Rapids

PRESS RELEASE – The Northwoods League is preparing to expand to Wisconsin Rapids, WI.  On Wednesday, December 16th beginning at 6:00 PM, at the Centralia Center in Wisconsin Rapids the owners of the expansion Northwoods League team will be introduced. 

Mayor Mary Jo Carson along with Northwoods League President Dick Radatz, Jr. will be on hand to meet with local media and anyone from the general public that would like to learn more about this exciting opportunity for the city and the surrounding area.  The free event will be open to the public and complimentary hot dogs and soda will be provided.

Pending approval by the Wisconsin Rapids City Council on Tuesday December 15th, the Northwoods League is planning on entering into a lease agreement for use of Witter Field as the home for the 16th Northwoods League franchise, which would start play in 2010.  The League currently has affiliates in five Wisconsin cities (Wausau, Madison, Eau Claire, La Crosse & Green Bay).  Renovations to Witter Field for the 2010 season and a “Name the Hometown Team” contest will also be announced during the event.

The Northwoods League strives to:
Provide the finest environment for the development of collegiate players;
Maximize the operational effectiveness of its affiliated teams; and
Enrich the quality of life in its member communities.

To date, 60 former Northwoods League players have gone on to play Major League Baseball.
