PRESS RELEASE – Don’t let the mild temperatures fool you…the annual holiday lights display at Fifth Third Ballpark proves that Christmas is drawing near! Michigan’s largest Christmas light display, Nite Lites, will turn the power on to more than a million lights for the 12th season at Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday, November 20 at 6 p.m.
The drive-through Nite Lites display is more than a mile long and includes dozens of life-size animated figures, lighted trees and tunnels. Synchronized lights give life to a waving Frosty, a five-car train full of gifts and Santa carrying a huge sack of presents.
Kids and kids at heart will also be able to visit with Santa Claus himself in this winter wonderland setting. Santa has a limited schedule and will be available from 6 to 9:30 p.m. nightly from Friday, December 4th through Sunday, December 6; from Friday, December 11 to Sunday, December 13; and again from Thursday, December 17 through Wednesday, December 23. There is no additional cost to visit with Santa Claus, but children and pets will have the opportunity to have their photos taken with Santa for a small fee.
Making an appearance at Fifth Third Ballpark are Santa Claus and his nine reindeer. This display is 160 feet long and includes more than 10,000 lights. Visitors will also be able to see Saint Nick’s athletic side. On one side of the parking lot, he casts his fishing line and reels in a fish. On the other side, he pitches a baseball to an elf who hits it out of the park – every time. Every display is original, including the pair of smiling elves holding a welcome banner to greet guests. Every year new displays are added, so be sure to take the tour and see all the new highlights of the 2009 Nite Lites display!
Vehicles will enter from West River Drive at Fifth Third Ballpark’s main entrance, circle around the stadium through the south parking lot and along the Grand River back to the exit onto West River Drive. The Nite Lite display is open from 6 to 10 p.m. every night and runs through Saturday, January 2. Admission is $10 per car, $18 per limo or motor home, $30 per mini bus and $60 per Greyhound bus.
A portion of all profits will be donated to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. For more information regarding the light display or fund raising opportunities, please contact Bill Schrader at (616) 292-1434 or visit the Nite Lites web site at http://www.nitelitesshow.com.
